Colombo, Sri Lanka

January 19, 2019

Our first impression of Colombo, the capital of Sri Lanka, was that it was much cleaner than the cities we visited in India and the sidewalks were not littered with trash. We enjoyed walking along the promenade at Galle Face Green, where we saw people flying kites and vendors selling all kinds of food including theses lentil cakes topped with shrimp.

There was a lot of construction in the city center near a lake with swan boats.

In a modern shopping mall nearby children (and adults!) were entertained by this changing virtual reality dinosaur display.

Buddhism is the main religion in Sri Lanka and we visited a big temple.

Many temples have an elephant. Christine was able to get close to this one!

Great photos as usual. Politics are unsettled, as you probably know, and the wounds of the civil war with the Tamil Hindu minority undoubtedly have not fully healed.
